A week or so ago we had a beautiful ice storm. Well it was only beautiful to look at. The trees it ripped apart ware not so pretty. The clean-up wisn't so pretty either. Or the money it ripped right out of wallets to cleanup after its aftermath.
Our soon-to-be-sold house gets the air conditiner unit replaced as it didnt fair so well when a large branch fell on it. Our new-to-us-maybe-someday-we-will-get-moved-into-big-city-house, among having lots of fallen branches too, needs the aged fence repaired before Tubster the dog gets to visit again.
While the ice storm was raising havoc Daryl, Dirk, Zach, and myself seen a lull in the storm so we took off a day early on a trip we had planned. Before the next layer of ice arrived and then followed by many inches of heavy wet snow. Causing electricity to be out for many people for many days. Clark's girlfriend, Brooke, family were bundled up for days. Maria and her family stayed at her in-laws for several days. We drove thru rain across two-lane roads in Iowa to avoid the ice storm just to the north of us. Left Seth to hang out at home for two days by himself as school had been cancelled. It was a looong ride but as always was entertaining. Dirk and Zach every once in awhile would break out with a "Weeeeeee!" like that pig in the commercial. I learned something I wasn't fully aware of before. That Dirk....he LOOOOVES to talk. Nonstop. Mostly about trucking!! Engines. Headlight styles. Horsepower. Barometers. Fuel mileage. Locations of loads. People he met in his trucking business. Roads thru this great big country. On and on and on and on......
By the time we were an hour from home and I was the only female in the pickup surrounded by three truckers I was about to jump....but I soooo wanted to go to Wisconsin and see friends. And eastern Iowa to celebrate a friend turning the Big 40!! Thank goodness they broke up the nonstop trucking chatter every once in awhile with a "Weeeeeee!"
It was sooo worth listening to all the trucking chatter to see Donnie and Inez!! And The Navis'!!! We thoroughly enjoyed the time we got to spend with them all!! Then it was on to eastern Iowa to see Darla, Augie, and all their people!! But before the surprise party we had time to hang out in Dubuque, IA. Stoppped by an old brewery. Bowled a game at a 5th story bowling alley. Dined at a recommended Mexican joint. (Tired a tiny bit of their "hot sauce" and nearly burnt a hole in our tongues!!!Wowsers.) Introduced Dirk and Zach to the cool world of cupcake shoppes!! They were delicious!! Then it was on to the birthday party! We wanted to make sure Darla felt very welcomed to join the awesome 40-something crowd!!! A great time was had by all of us!!! It was great to hang out with Zach and Dirk!
The weekend roadtrip started out with a "Weeeee!". It ended with a "WEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" too!!!

Goodness! Y'all sure have been hit with a lot of bad weather this winter...and spring.
Sounds like a great trip. Your boys sound so great to be with. You're a very lucky mama. Too bad the weather was so crappy. Ice storms are the worse. Luckily we don't have them here in Alberta. Hope spring has found you by now.
