Daryl's Twelve Days of Christmas.......

The big rig rolled in about 5pm Friday night. Daryl is now home for the holidays. He has parked the truck. It will be sitting thru the entire season. It needs a break too once in awhile.
After the past two weeks of winter storm driving it is probably heaving a huge sigh of relief!!
Utah, Wyoming,Colorado, and Nebraska have been unkind to the country wide traveller and the rig. They have endured miles and hours of tense icy, windy, snow covered roads. Daryl was loaded just on time Thursday in Ogden ,Utah. It was snowing very heavily when he left. He didn't dare stop as he would get caught up in the intensity of the storm and lose his appointment in Omaha,NE on Friday. That would really mess up with his 12 days home or not! So he stayed going with it to get out of the storm and then to stay ahead of it. He made his appointment and turned the rig towards home.
Dirk had made his first attempt at dispatching to find him a load home from Omaha. I had to work at my other job-waitressing at a cafe. But no load was to be found so he bounced home. (Bounced in trucker lingo means-running empty)
Daryl will be home for twelve days!!!!! In a row!! That is pretty exciting as he usually only gets a day off here and there. And that is because there is something very pressing with a time line that must be done. Never does he get a day to just be off other than on weekends. Why? I don't know. We are our own bosses. But we know a truck that sits makes no money for the important stuff in life. Food,roof,heat... to name a few.
I will be chronicling his 12 days off.
First Day- We (him and I) were up before the crack of dawn. So we decided to head to the bakery and grocery store to get groceries for the week. Before the rush. We had a nice leisure breakfast out just the two of us. He got to talk to some old buddies that he hadn't seen in awhile.( Note to self-Do NOT take Daryl grocery shopping with you when on a tight schedule. He knows people everyWHERE.)
Then when we arrived home he jumped back in the vehicle with Seth and took him to his basketball scrimmage.
He ran an errand. Ate lunch. Took a nap. Bummed around the house while dinner was cooking.
Brought dinner and gifts to his mother's house. Spent the evening with her playing dominoes and catching up on the latest news.
Begged hyped-up-sugar-loaded kids to "please go to bed"!!
