Zach is doing OK.
He was in surgery for 6 hours.
The doctor feels it was a success.
Bone and artery/vessels from the knee all worked real good.
The bone fragment that actually fractured off and caused this whole mess doc was a little disappointed in.
It was "softer" than he would like to have seen.
But there was a portion of it that was hard enough to hold the screw well.
He feels that with the bone graph and the artery graph he was able to do that there will be a very good blood flow to that pesky bone portion.
The screw is permanent. But the two pins that are poking out of his wrist will be removed when the healing is complete.
The scare was that Zach had a very hard time waking up.
He spent over 3 hours in the recovery room.
Scared the daylights out of us when we first seen him.
He did not look like our Zachary.
His face was all swollen and fire engine red.
For whatever reason , we have not gotten an explanation, of why he had over 5 bags of fluid pumped in to him. Which is why he is so puffy. And both nurses said that was unusal for a patient to have so much.
That catheder of his is going to get a workout with all that fluid!!
He had a hard time getting the pain under control for awhile tonight.
He tends to hyperventilate whenever he is in severe pain.
(Like when he smashed his finger. And when he got hauled off the football field in an ambukance.)
Then they upped the dose and he found his comfort level.
I'm sure he would differ with that comment.
WHAT comfort???
Doc also informed us that if every thing goes according to plan that he will be dismissed on Mon. or no later than Tues.
For our sake we are hoping Mon. or else Daryl and I will have to run home and take care of some time sensitive business and turn around and drive right back. Being it is 4 hrs one way we have our fingers crossed .Time will tell.
Well thats all for today. Yawn.........

Glad to hear the surgery was a success. Is the poor kid looking and feeling any better today?
Yikes that doesn't sound like fun for anybody. Hope the rest goes well!
YES! Today is looking up to being a good day for him.
He will have to stay in bed today and hoping to get up on his feet tomorrow.
About half of his fluid is gone out of his face. So we're getting "him" back.
The hand is going to be a long haul for him as far as the pain is concerned. That is going to be very hard to regulate.

I bet Zach is cursing ice patches. haha. wow. surgery is bad enough. but not being able to work would tear me apart. I feel really bad for him.
How wonderful for him and you that he is on the road to recovery!
I'll be back to read more ... loving your blog.
