There will be surgery tomorrow. We wont know til this evening what time it will be.
They are looking at surgery taking 2 1/2 hrs up to 6 hrs. depending on which option we decide to do.
The 6 hour surgery would give him more mobility in his wrist and seems to be the better option in the long run. Has potential for less arthirits later. Stornger wrist in the long run.
He will be hospitalized up to 5 days with that surgery as they will remove a section of bone from his knee and screw it in his wrist to hold the two segments together.
The surgery that would take less time has more possible setbacks involved in it. Mobility, healing time longer, less chance of success(thats always a risk),arthiritis...
Zach is not a happy camper at having surgery. But hearing that he will not be able to use the hand for his construction job or anything physical is not very uplifting. Total healing time realistically could be up to 6 months. In addition to the 2 months that we have been dealing with this already.
But we will get all that figured out as we go too.
In two weeks we will have to have sutures removed here at Mayo.
In another two weeks we will have to return for another type of cast.
And then again in a month we will have to come back if all goes as planned for another checkup.
He will be in a big bulky cast for the first two weeks to accommodate swelling. Does not sound like he will be wearing his tux jacket at Prom next weekend either.
We will figure that all out as we go too.
Main thing is that Zach's wrist gets fixed once and for all.
So please lift him up in prayer.
Pray for guidance for the doctors.
Pray for surgery to be a success.
Pray for the hand to heal well and without delays.
I will try to update. They have pc at the clinic for us to use while we wait for appts. Very nice.
Later.

Oh man! Such big decisions! My prayers are with him!
Glad to hear they can fix the wrist. Poor guy. Be sure to tell him that a cast is a real babe magnet. Maybe that will brighten him up.
We will be keeping you all and the doctors in prayer.
