The Latest On Zach.......

Zach suffered from heatstroke while we were at a family reunion in Arkansas. Too much heat+ strenuous exercise+ medication that he's on= heat stroke. Terrible scary stuff.
He was feeling much better on Sunday til he went swimming.
On Monday when we went to Mayo for his hand appointment we also met with his Infectious Disease doctor. They ran blood work to check and see if any damage had been done with the heatstroke(none)and also diagnosed it as a stroke instead of heat exhaustion.
You can read up on it at MayoClinic.com.
Today he is doing well. We are constantly on him about staying cool, drinking fluids, and resting. But he is all better or so he thinks. Doc says it will take weeks before his body is back to normal.
The plan was to leave him home from Wyoming for this week. Let him rest at home in the cool comfy house. But yesterday proved that was not going to be a good choice. He wont stay put. He is always outside working on something. (Like another free car!!!) Every time we turn around he is outside. So we changed our minds. Rather than fighting with him to keep him inside out of the 100* shop we are sending him to WY. There he will be outside in an air conditioned tractor. He will also go to Rapid City,SD and check into school (and housing) that he plans to transfer to in the fall. There should be alot less nagging him this way....or so we hope!!!!
We also received really good news at Mayo Clinic concerning his hand. There is very good bone growth with this latest graft. We return in two months to see if it is all grown in completely.
Zach may now remove the cast and use a splint. Without the splint on he can lift up to 10 lbs. With a splint on he can lift up to 20 lbs. He is also to lift a weight with that weak wrist and get strength built back up in it.
Sorry, I should of posted an update sooner on Zach for all the family that knew of the heatstroke. And about the great news we received at Mayo Clinic!!!
Thanks for all your prayers!

This IS good news! For an active growing boy to have the use of his hand back is wonderful! And being useful helps in the mind department.

How are the wedding plans coming along?

Good news about the wrist healing so well. But what is it with men and not doing what doctor orders? I mean, last time I was really sick my doctor ordered bedrest for 5 days - only problem was that HB was away for 2 months and I had 4 little ones under the age of 5 years old. So I had to go against the doctor's orders (I actually asked him to write me a prescription for a babysitter!) But men don't usually have any of that to deal with. When they are told to rest they can do it in full knowledge that the woman in their life (either mum or wife) will take care of them and everything else, yet they still won't rest!

Hold that boy down. Yikes. That's serious stuff and they never seem to believe it. I have 2 sons (o: So glad the wrist is healing better. Try to stay cool all of you.

Wonderful news. Glad that arm is finally coming around. You may need to hook him up to an IV if he doesn't shape up.

Finally good news about/for Zack. Way to go. You all must be relieved to have him on the mend.

I'm so pleased there's more bone growth. Yes an a/c tractor sounds more restful than what he's doing now!
